Wednesday 17th March – Tuesday 23rd March

‘…I saw no temple in the city, for its temple was the Sovereign Lord God and the Lamb. The City did not need the sun by day, nor the moon by night for the Glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb…’ (Revelation 21, verses 22 – 23)

1. The sands of time are sinking, the dawn of Heaven breaks;
The summer morn I’ve sighed for, the fair, sweet morn awakes:
Dark, dark hath been the midnight, but dayspring is at hand,
And glory, glory dwelleth In Immanuel’s land.

2. O Christ, He is the fountain, the deep, sweet well of love!
The streams on earth I’ve tasted, more deep I’ll drink above:
There to an ocean fullness His mercy doth expand,
And glory, glory dwelleth In Immanuel’s land.

3. The King there in His beauty without a veil is seen;
It were a well-spent journey, though seven deaths lay between:
The Lamb with His fair army, doth on Mount Zion stand,
And glory, glory dwelleth in Immanuel’s land.

4. With mercy and with judgment my web of time He wove,
And aye, the dews of sorrow were lustred by His love;
I’ll bless the hand that guided, I’ll bless the heart that planned
When throned where glory dwelleth In Immanuel’s land.

5. The Bride eyes not her garment, but her dear Bridegroom’s face;
I will not gaze at glory but on my King of grace;
Not at the crown He giveth but on His pierced hand:
The Lamb is all the glory Of Immanuel’s land.

During this week, we look out on the world. Please pray, remembering…

  • Those countries where Covid-19 continues to cause large scale suffering. Where healthcare facilities are stretched beyond breaking point. Where the virus is just another problem alongside famine, disease, war, civil unrest, poverty, unemployment…
  • Those whom we know, living in other countries: family, friends, former neighbours & colleagues. Those whom we would wish to visit and have them visit us if it were not for the effect of the pandemic…
  • The leaders of the nations; large and small. All who have influence on the world stage. Religious leaders, especially within the Christian faith…
  • All those wandering the earth; with nowhere to lay their head, seeking a better life; a more secure, a more prosperous future; a place to call home.

‘…He was looking forward to a city with firm foundations, whose architect & builder is God…’ (Hebrews 11, verse 10).
