Wednesday 17th – Tuesday 23rd February 2021
1. In the cross of Christ I glory,
Tow’ring o’er the wrecks of time;
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime.
2. When the woes of life o’ertake me
Hopes deceive, and fears annoy,
Never shall the Cross forsake me,
Lo! It glows with peace and joy.
3. When the sun of bliss is beaming
Light and love upon my way
From the cross the radiance streaming
Adds more lustre to the day.
4.Bane And blessing, pain and  pleasure,
By the Cross are sanctified;
Peace is there that knows no measure
Joys that through all time abide.

‘…I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me…’ (Galatians 2, 20).

The 17th is Ash Wednesday – the day, at the beginning of Lent, when we remind ourselves that we are just what we are: human; made from the dust, the same dust to which we will eventually return – a day for reflecting about ourselves…And so…

During this week, please pray asking

  • For a sense of proportion: of who each one of us really is. To be reminded that we are made in the image & likeness of God, and that we have been remade in the image and likeness of Christ…
  • That God, through the Holy Spirit, might reveal to us what it is about us that is preventing each one of us from the being the person we were and are made to be…
  • That nevertheless, even though we are not perfect, we would be made to realise that God would take hold of each one of us, in our imperfect state, and fashion a way of living that is beautiful in God’s sight;
  • That each one of us might never lose sight of the fact that we are loved by God…

‘…But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world…’ (Galatians 6, 14)
