Finance Officer

20 hours per month Salary £15.93-£18.68 per hour (£29,000-£34,000 Full Time Equivalent) based on experience.

Job Description

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Book-keeping
    1. Keeping accounts up to date through use of the charity accounts software, Liberty Accounts
    2. End of year accounts, including production of a formal report
    3. Keeping an up to date record of Donors
    4. Gift Aid: maintain a current Gift Aid envelope list and make Gift Aid declarations, in conjunction with the Treasurer
    5. Undertake an inventory of the Traidcraft Stall twice a year.
  2. Finance:
    1. Production of budgets and budget statements quarterly, for consideration by the Trustees
    2. Regular checking of the Church bank account to ensure it is in order
    3. Pay suppliers regularly, within the guidelines for best practice
    4. Reimburse expenses incurred by those undertaking activities on behalf of the Church in a timely way
    5. Calculate monies owed to other charities from Church events and make the payments
    6. Empty, count and bank collections (currently Flamingo, Water Aid, Concerts)
    7. Count Church collections
    8. Provide and overview floats for events as required, such as the Annual Bazaar
    9. Bank cash and cheque collections weekly, in Golders Green
    10. Working with others, ensure reminders for payments owed are sent in a timely manner.
  3. Administrative:
    1. Order office supplies as necessary and pay the rental for equipment
    2. Provide meter readings to relevant companies monthly.

Lettings management

The Finance Officer will work closely with the Lettings Officer over the receipt of payments for lettings.

Line Management

The post holder is accountable to the Treasurer, who will provide regular support. There will be an annual appraisal and review of pay.

The Minister and Church Secretary will be available for support.

There are a number of other colleagues (Deacons, Trustees and Elders) who have roles within the Church and who will work closely with the Finance Officer in the discharge of those roles.

Safeguarding

The Church takes the safety of everyone in the Church family very seriously and expects that everyone will work within its Safeguarding Policy. In particular the Church expects that everyone who becomes aware of a safeguarding risk or of actual abuse, will raise this immediately with their line manager or the Church’s Safeguarding Coordinator.

Inevitably, in the course of this employment there will be access to information of a personal and confidential nature. It is expected that such information will be kept strictly confidential.

 

Terms and Conditions:

  • Terms of appointment: permanent
  • Part time: 20 hours a month (the number of hours required will be reviewed and discussed with the successful applicant during the first 3 months)
  • If the successful candidate is already self-employed, the post could be held on a self-employed basis
  • The post is based in the Church office, with home working
  • Working patterns: due to the nature of the role there are a number of fixed points (such as weekly banking, the production of quarterly reports for the Trustees and annual accounts) but in general flexible working between Monday and Friday can be agreed with the line manager
  • The salary range is £15.93-£18.68 per hour (£29,000 – £34,000 FTE) and will be negotiable based on experience
  • Annual leave: 20 days pro rata, following completion of the probationary period
  • Pension provision will be made according to statutory requirements
  • Appointment will be subject to:
    • A satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure
    • Satisfactory references
    • Satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

  • Written and spoken English to standard required to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • IT skills (Booking software, Word, Excel, email) for same purpose and general conduct of the job
