- For Free Church funds
HGS Free Church is a charity. The church depends on the giving of those associatedwith the church, and the money generated from the rental of the church and church hall for its income.
- Night Shelter in Church Hall
The Church is collaborating with the charity Together in Barnet, who run a night shelter across the Borough every night of the week during the winter months from October to April.
Different venues are used and HGS Free Church will host Tuesday night in our church hall from December 18th 2018 for 10 weeks.
Any donations for this project can be either sent to the Minister
The Free Church is responding to the words of Jesus;‘ for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me and I was in prison and you came to me.'
These words from Matthew 25 have framed the activities of the church over the past 5 years: We support the Colindale food bank each week, collect small change for Water Aid each year, have a culture of welcome to all who come to the church and have set up a clothing exchange. During 2017 we focused our thinking and actions on mental health – the promotion of mental wellbeing as well as mental illness itself.
In 2018 we are considering how we can aid prisoners of conscience and their faimilies; those people who find themselves imprisoned because of views they hold – religious, political, cultural – which are at odds with thr ruling regime.
- for Dennis Scott Unit (adult mental health)
We have reached our target!! Through the various activities; flower festival, concerts, two sponsored walks –and donations in memory of Mark Trafford, we have collected over £10,000.
Thank you so much to all who have helped raise the money.
Six pieces of outdoor gym equipment are on order. They will be installed in the space at the front of the Dennis Scott Unit, Edgware Hospital, next to their indoor recreational/games room. The equipment will be available to patients from all three wards, staff and any visitors who wish to use it.
Barnet Mental Health Trust, with the help of a Lottery Fund bid, intend to match our £10,000 and place similar equipment at the Springwell Centre, Barnet Hospital, where there are two in-patient wards and a very busy Psychiatric Out- Patient Department. The spare money raised will enable us to continue to support the other activities we have initiated to improve the in-patient experience at the Dennis Scott Unit.
