Hampstead Garden Suburb Free Church

Music at the Free Church

Please see Diary - What's On for details of FRIDAY CONCERTS

The Church has an excellent musical tradition and it is one of very few Free Churches where the Psalms are still chanted. The Choir sings at all Sunday morning services except during August and an Introit and Anthem are sung each week. The choir maintains a very high standard of music under the direction of the organist, Ken Dougall.

In addition to normal Sunday worship the choir also take a leading role in the Advent Carol Service which takes place on Advent Sunday evening at 6.30 p.m.

We also do our best to perform an annual concert with an orchestra around May each year and works performed to date include Handel's "Messiah", Faure's "Requiem", Vivaldi's "Gloria", Schubert's Mass in G and Mozart's "Requiem".

We have a small Junior Choir and they practise on Sunday mornings at 10.00 a.m. before singing in the Introit and the first two hymns. They then proceed to Junior Church.

New members are always welcome to both Senior and Junior Choirs and anyone interested in singing with us should contact Ken Dougall on 01462 420654.

The main Choir Practice takes place every Thursday at 8.00 p.m. in the Church.

Under the topic of "music" we must mention our splendid organ. This is a three manual, Norman and Beard from 1912. Rebuilt in 2003, it is a wonderful instrument and is often heard at recitals which take place on a regular basis in the Church.
